Double Lot Design

In 2019 I was hired to design a productive garden and landscape spanning two large urban lots with two homes. This space, located in Pittsburgh’s Hill District, is used for gardening but also backyard musical performances. With the home owner we took all their hopes into consideration to create this design.

A Few Design Details

The property had a few fruit trees and garden beds already in it, but largely was a sloping yard with lots of grass to cut. The major design elements included are swales along contour lines in the steeper areas of the yard, fruit trees and edible shrubs in the less trafficked areas, and plenty of gathering space and pathways through flowering and herb gardens. Over the past few years the home owner has been implementing one step at a time.
